Mr. Kosan is one of the founders of Fredman, Baken & Kosan, LLP. He has practiced exclusively in the areas of matrimonial law for over 25 years. He has successfully tried numerous cases to final decisions involving issues such as equitable distribution, maintenance, custody and child support. Michael is also an experienced appellate practitioner and has handled appeals not only for the firm, but also for other firms and practitioners seeking his expertise in this area.
Michael is a 1971 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is a 1975 graduate of the University Of Pennsylvania Law School.
Formerly the Principal Law Secretary to the Honorable Lucille Polk Buell of the Westchester County Family Court and the Supreme Court of the Ninth Judicial District, he left the court in 1986 to join the matrimonial department of Fink, Weinberger PC in White Plains and NYC. In 1993 he joined in partnership with Scheinkman, Fredman & Kosan. In 1998 the firm became Fredman & Kosan, LLP and in 2009 took on another partner, Ellen Jancko-Baken, forming the partnership, as it remains today, of Fredman, Baken & Kosan, LLP.
Michael is a member of the bar of the states of New York and Pennsylvania. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a member of the Family Law Section of The Westchester County Bar Association and the Association for Conflict Resolution. Michael and his wife of 36 years, Cheryl, and their two children have enjoyed swimming, sailing and boating on the North Fork of Long Island for the past 33 summers.
Michael has successfully guided numerous clients through one of the most emotionally and psychologically draining experiences of their lives. He is known to explore any and all avenues of negotiation in order to resolve a matter, but will aggressively litigate when that path is necessary to protect his clients rights and interests.
